The world is a big, huge place, and no matter who you are or where you’re from, there’s probably a country out there that’s right up your alley—one you could visit over and over again and never get sick of. After all, the world is your oyster, right? However, not every single country can please every single person. That’s just the way things are, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

However, some places leave tourists with a bad impression of a place that keeps them from ever wanting to come back. They also tell others not to go there. Sometimes those bad feelings are understandable—maybe the people in that particular country were unfriendly and refused to give directions—but other times, people’s reasons for disliking a different country are just downright ridiculous and borderline silly!

Today, we’re taking a look at several people who visited a country and then said, “No more!”, takingto the streets to tell their story and air their grievances. For whatever reason, their time in these places was so, so bad that they vowed never to return—and they clearly wanted the world to know about their experience and learn from their mistakes. Let’s get started!

China

When it comes to Westerners, you might expect most people’s complaints about China to revolve around the communist government or their heavy surveillance of citizens and visitors alike.

However, one individual had quite a unique complaint about this massive country—it all just seemed kind of run down to them.

“Mainland China. I really enjoyed Hong Kong, but I just can’t go back to a country with such erratic maintenance of aircraft, cabs that will kill me, and from restaurants to international airports toilets that are essentially a porcelain hole in the ground…Sorry for the pessimism.”

Jamaica

The island paradise of Jamaica sees tons of visitors every year, and most of them have a good time.

However, one recurring complaint you’ll see crop up a lot in Jamaica: its lack of safety for people and their possessions. It’s best to stay alert when you’re there!

One person had no problem coming up with an answer for the country they would never visit again: “Jamaica…got mugged within the first 5 minutes. I kid you not!”

That’s not a great way to start your vacation, and we can see why they would never want to return.

Haiti

There aren’t many countries on earth that have had more of a bum deal than Haiti.

In addition to lots of civil unrest, the country also experienced two devastating earthquakes in the span of a decade–one in 2010 and a more recent one in 2021.

It may look like an idyllic place, but it’s apparently not great to visit.

One person cited all of these problems and more as to why they would not want to go back, despite the good impression the people of Haiti left on them: “Anything a country would need to get a leg up is just nonexistent. I’m a pretty positive person and met the loveliest people there, but I’ve never been more depressed or pessimistic about a place’s future.”

Venezuela

Political stability” is not something that immediately pops into your head when you think of Venezuela, and that’s definitely had an impact on its reputation around the world.

Like many of the places on this list, it’s a beautiful country but just not safe enough to visit right now.

One individual said he visited family in Venezuela when he was a child, but he’s got no plans on returning: “I visited my extended family there (near Caracas) as a young child and had an amazing time, but things there have REALLY gone south since then. Pretty much all my family members that were there have left for obvious reasons.”

Dubai

Tourism is a vital part of the Emirate of Dubai’s economy, and they do everything they can in the country to make sure that visitors enjoy their stays and want to return for more.

However, some people have pointed out that they might be taking things too far to make the country fun and familiar for foreigners.

One person visited Dubai, but they said it felt like they had never left the United States: “While interesting, it’s really just a total ripoff of Western culture. I flew 12 hours from NYC only to be surrounded by a cheesecake factory, Wendy’s, California pizza kitchen, etc. No real ‘culture’.”

Belgium

There’s more to Belgium than just Belgian Waffles—although that in itself is reason enough to hop on a plane and visit this unique European country!

It might not be a big place, but it’s packed full of history, culture, and food that keeps people coming back for more of the Belgian experience.

However, if you’re visiting, be prepared to pay up handsomely!

This individual thought Belgium was great, but it just wasn’t worth the cost: “Belgium, but only because it’s expensive. I would like to visit it again but that will only happen if I have several thousand dollars to burn.

Vietnam

The citizens of some countries don’t care much for tourists.

They might be glad to take their money, but they would really prefer it if these visitors weren’t there at all.

But that’s not the case in Vietnam! According to one person, trying to get some alone time in the country was a Herculean task.

“Vietnam. Wonderful food and had a blast, but god damn, you could not be left alone to save your life. Someone was always trying to sell you something. You could be sitting in front of a restaurant having a beer and 20 people would come up in a 30-minute period trying to hawk sh*t at you. Ridiculous.”

France

The citizens of France don’t have the best global reputation when it comes to friendliness.

There are more than a few people who visit the country who feel like the natives aren’t very thrilled about having to share their space with tourists.

And that was definitely the case for this next person.

“Went there back in 2008 and got treated with pure disrespect everywhere I went. They really did not like tourists there and walking through the streets with my luggage I got nothing but death stares from people. I got nothing against the French but I think a one-time visit was enough for me :)”

Guatemala

Tourism makes up $1.8 billion of Guatemala’s $145 billion GDP, so, needless to say, it’s essential for the thriving of the country.

However, safety issues in Guatemala can make visiting a tricky and potentially dangerous ordeal.

For some, the risks to themselves outweigh the benefits of visiting again, like this next individual:

“Visited on a cruise holiday. While ashore, we had to have an armed guard on our tour bus to make sure we didn’t get mugged, shot, or dragged off by gangs. It was terrifying, and it would take a hell of a lot to get me to go back.”

Egypt

Egypt may be home to some of the most impressive and important artifacts of human history, but, for some visitors, the negatives of the country outweigh any of the positives.

It turns out that there’s more to the country than just pyramids and mummies, and apparently, a lot of it isn’t that great.

According to this individual, they had many indications that maybe Egypt wasn’t the safest place to be: “Turrets on street corners, Tanks, Soldiers with automatic weapons everywhere. We had an armed police officer on the tour bus […], a police escort everywhere, bomb dogs, and a guy with a mirror looking under the bus for bombs.”

Romania

If you’re a Dracula superfan, don’t worry–you’ll have a great time visiting Romania. There’s plenty of Transylvania-themed fun to be had in the country.

However, if you ask this next person what they think of Romania, there’s not much worth doing in the country aside from a little vampire hunting.

“Romania. Outside of my visit to Transylvania, I found it to be the most boring country I have visited.” There’s nothing wrong with being boring, but it’s definitely not the way you want people to describe you if you’re trying to be a tourist hotspot!

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is not a place that’s high on many tourist lists, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it’s not the easiest or most traditional country to visit.

However, one individual found themselves there and despite liking the people and food, vowed to never go back because of a lack of safety.

“The infrastructure is so f*cking bad. It’s falling apart and feels dangerous[…]It was the first poor country I’ve been to where I didn’t feel like their situation was improving. It’s dirty, and not in a charming, rough-around-the-edges way. Basic sanitation felt close to non-existent. It’s hard-going. Buses were painfully uncomfortable. F*cking buses will bump each other driving around the city and just keep going.”

Paraguay

Sometimes there’s nothing actively terrible with a place, but it still gives you a weird vibe. That’s exactly what happened to this person when they visited Paraguay.

Despite their complaints about the locale being vague, they vowed never to return. It seems like you can’t please everyone!

“I visited Ciudad del Este, or the city where Brazilians go to buy cheap stuff. It was ugly, overcrowded, and a bit creepy. I don’t see any reason to go back there or to any other place in the country. I’m sure there are nice spots to visit (mostly because of the natural features), but then again, other South American countries also offer a lot to see.”

Finland

If you don’t mind the cold, Finland can be a fun and educational place to visit.

Cruises to and from the country are very popular, or, if you’d rather stay on dry land, there is plenty of natural beauty to be discovered in Finland’s forests and other ecosystems.

However, don’t expect a wild and crazy time if you visit!

One person was surprised about how low-key their visit to Finland was—”Finland. It’s cold, the people are boring, nobody talks to anyone, and the only conversation everyone talks about is how much they hate Sweden.” Who knew that their rivalry with Sweden was so intense?

Ecuador

Tourists don’t always get a warm welcome from citizens, and that’s exactly what happened to this interviewee when they visited Ecuador.

While they might not have liked the reception they received in that country, they did have really nice things to say about the people of Colombia. Looks like Ecuador has some competition!

“Ecuador. There is nothing wrong with the country, but I just didn’t feel the same warmth from the people as I felt in Colombia. Maybe because Ecuador has been dealing with tourists longer and they just don’t get surprised anymore.”
